Put simply, visiting Abaco can become habit forming as this writer can attest.

Once you've been to Abaco you are hooked, addicted, obsessed, infatuated, captivated, enthralled, entranced, charmed, fixated on, fanatical about, crazy for, nuts and just plain gaga about the ABACOS. I myself have been more times than I can count since prior to Bahamian Independence from Britain in 1973. Since 1990 I've made another two dozen trips, six by boat, one solo (over and back). And one a week after 911 when nobody else was flying and the cays devoid of visitors ..

There have been numerous reports, many of which have been posted on the Abaco's Community Message Board of this post travel affliction commonly come to be know as Abacolism - a mental disorder by which one becomes an Abacoholic.

Abaco - Out Island group of the Bahamas, Ism - English suffix taken from the Greek-ismos a Greek verb meaning "to immerse". Once more formal doctrines came into being, then the word "theism" was created. "Theos" god; "ism", - belief in, devotion to, love of, fondness, yearning fervor. etc. As far as the “L” goes we have no Idea where that came from.

As mentioned it has been written about often. It wasn’t until August 16, 2006 did this affliction become recognized by the medical community and given it's name by Abaco Board member GazeboMan. And till this point there is no cure but there are some temporary remedies as listed by board members

Some of the affects are: A count down calendar till your next visit. Frequent viewing of your trip photos. Repainting a room in island colors with pictures and photos of the Abacos on all walls. And keeping a six-pac of Kalik in your frig. The GazeboMan. has post his list, in order of importance, intended to help one with this disorder.
