Abaco Cruising Links and Suggestions

I have chosen not to address the details of cruising to the Abacos and questions relating to cruising yachtsmen in my Abaco Guide. The subject has been written about by others most of which stay on top of the changes in facilities and water conditions such as aids to navigation, shoaling areas etc. It is for this reason I've added this page of links.

As for my own experience I have made the trip to Abaco from the west coast of Florida on six occasions and on three different boats (One Solo - Round Trip). Contained within this trip story is a considerable amount of helpful information and in this regard I would be happy to reply to any inquiries. sandy@motuiti.com

New links will be updated as they are brought to our attention.

PUBLICATIONS

1) First and foremost is the "Cruising Guide to the Abacos" by Steve Dodge. Steve lives in the Abacos most of the year and updates his guide annually. You can find his book at Boat US and West Marine and other marine supply outlets.

2) Then there the origional Cruising Guide - "The Yachtsman Guide to the Bahamas" which will be a necessity if you are continuing on from the Abacos. As the name inplied it covers all the Bahama Islands. It too is updated annually and can be found at Boat US and West Marine and other marine supply outlets.

INTERNET GUIDES

3) A regular visitor to the Abacos is Dr. Ralph. His page entitled "Traveling in Your Own Boat" is loaded with information. In addition to Charting and Navigation, he has included many practical and useful tips on Communications, Health and Safety, What to Bring and Buy. There is also info on Fuel Management, Provisions, Laundry and Clothing Issues, Money, and What to do if you Break Down or Run Aground. And finally there's information on Bahamas Customs and Immigration, and Returning to the US.

4) A while back Rick Greaf posted a Cruising Guide on the net that he defines it as "the definitive nautical publication for cruising the waters of the Abaco Islands". I'm not so sure as it hasn't been updated in years. Just the same there is some useful info contained within. Click Here.

5) For up-to-date info such as lock closings, aids to navigation changes check out the Bahama page of the state side CruisersNet.net.

6) . . . . . More coming
