July 1st saw the option of "turning on" a Bahamian background music stream (dabahamianting) while reading our guide. We know some folks find background music distracting, so it's your call. You can turn it off by closing the music window. To Play, just click to the music icon ton the top of our Abaco Guide. (more on our Bahamain Music page.)
The end of June we caught up posting some "Trip Reports" and the 16th, saw the posting of our AnnualUpdate.com (and trip report). And the day before we left on that Abaco pilgrimage, we added weather radar to our condensed weather page which is linked to the star at the top right of our Guide. It's clean and not cluttered with Ads. You may want so save it to favorites. Our Weather/Hurricane page remains unchanged and is linked in the left column..
In May we streamlined & condensed our website index. All pages are now indexed on just a single page. Go to AbacoIndex.com. We also reorganized our Abaco Guide to include a section of "Off the Beaten Path Travels" which are pretty much limited to Abaco's Mainland. We've added a link to a left column picture, which is not something we'd normally mentioned here. However it's to a Country Music Video by Billy Currington shot entirely in New Plymouth, G.T.C. and at the Tipsy Bar at the Treasure Cay Resort. Unfortunately no reference to Abaco is in the lyrics. And for the first time, we added a short HD VIDEO. It's located under Supplemental Abaco Pages in the left column. We've had pages on fishing and conch but until now nothing on Bahamian Lobster, We do now.
April we added a new page on Little Harbour. Granted a lot is written about Little Harbour in our guide, but little on the often over looked, Caves, Old Lighthouse and the Dragon Blowhole. They are all mentioned with pictures. We also updated the ever changing Air Carrier page. (AbacoAirlines.com). A never ending battle with airlines coming and going and routs being changed.
March we we did some catching up on our Trip Reports Page starting with Sept. '08 to the present. The reports are in reverse chronological order, which doesn't mean the older ones down the list aren't packed with useful experiences and lovely pictures.
February we made a major update to our Abaco Art Page adding a new artist and effectively doubling its size. Just click in the center column divider and the page refreshes with all new pictures.
January maybe you noticed, we soften things by rounding all corners on pictures and borders of our Abaco Guide**, with our supplemental pages following. Our Wide Screen Page was updated. The text and links are the same as AbacoEscape.com, the pictures vary slightly. For this page you will need a 20 inch screen (1680 dpi) but it is truly eye candy. Understand the WS version updates only twice a year where as our main page is being updated all the time.
Also in Jan., we updated our Home Page (AbacoEscape.com), its shortened version "The Abacos in a Nutshell" and our Boating page (BoatingAbaco.com). primarily for some changes, additions and deletions. We also added a collection of music to our music page. (AbacoTunes.com) plus a Video link and a couple great links for Bahamian/Caribbean music aficionados.
December 2008 we began accepting advertising in the form of rotating banner ad's. Yes, my philanthropic days are over in supporting our Abaco Guide. The number of first visit hits have picked up tremendously plus traffic on my Bahamian Music page has increased broad band usage five fold. Then throw in the many .com pointers we use (see AbacoIndex.com). All the aforementioned have increased the sites overhead considerably. Our ad philosophy is simple: just a couple of vendors from each cay or mainland area with familiarity on my behalf and attractively designed to fit my Website.
**PS. Rounded corners are a common element of web design which is used on this and many of our other pages. Unfortunately the code for such is not supported by Internet Explorer up to and including version 8. Much on this can be found with a google search, In the meantime, to view our pages as intended, we recommend Firefox or Safari.
