Scrubs

Originally made by Disney, ABC's Parent and was sold to NBC. NBC dropped it after the 2008 season. With shooting already begun for '09 the show was picked up by ABC. During the year the one hour episode changed days the cut to half hour episodes and changed time slots. Definitely the bastard child of ABC.

The Hope Town episode didn't air till 9 months later after shooting, but The Answer is Yes.... We did make the cut, but only briefly

You'll see Debbie & I sitting at the far side of the bar at Harbour's Edge chatting with another patron. The bartender is the Harbour's Edge staff regular bartender Shane. The Actor who back is to us is L.I. native Robert Maschio who plays Dr. Todd Quinlan.

As for our opinion of the show, in a word, embarrassing. We never watched in any case but the excitement of the shooting made for a fun event during our visit.

Why Hope Town ?

For those of us who are regular visitors, it's hard to understand why anybody wouldn't love Hope Town. The the Scrubs episode(s) “My Soul is on Fire” was chosen to be shot there for reasons unknown to many. Here is my best guess but you be the judge.

The Shows Creator/Director is Bill Lawrence. He also acted in a couple scenes (see below). His Dad (also in a scene below) owns a home in Hope Town near the Lodge and the bulk of the shooting. When not on the Island he rents his home(s). The rental agent is the sister of Ira Key Ira, who is a lifelong resident and fishing guide of some renown and who is also in a scene (at the Harbour's Edge Restaurant). with a speaking roll “Drink......Drink......Drink..... Damn it Drink”

So putting those pieces together, I submit they add up to Scrubs being shot in the Hope Town. But it seems to this writer, it was at a tremendous expense to bring an entourage of 93 all the way from California for a show of such low ratings. Here lies the real mystery. Again it's your best guess.

Special mention should be given to Gary the bartender at the Lodge Pool Bar. He is in a few scenes and has a speaking roll of some length near the end of the episode. You'll also find Dr. Bob Kelso (Ken Jenkins) there on a regular basis ordering one of a couple dozen Bahama Momma's he consumes during the episode. Hey, what ever happened to the Goombay?

Below are three frames I lifted form the show of our two seconds of fame.
