Red Tide Reeks Havoc. Area of Gulf Void of Life.
Tide of Destruction. Red Tide Kills Turtles in Record Numbers.

These are the headlines on what’s going on in Florida. This is what could happen in the Abacos.

The following articles support my assumptions. They are presented here not only for what it is doing to Florida's west coast, but what as a warning to what could happen to Great Guana Cay and the Abacos if development is to proceed on the proposed scale. The articles contained herein are only from my area of Florida -Sarasota, which fringes on the “dead zone”.

I bring this to your attention here in the Guana Cay pages of my Abaco Guide as a warning of what can happen to this paradise. Serious environmental controls for growth in the out islands have to be put in place. Folks have to get involved.

Yes, Florida's problems have been going on for a long time and some would say that what is planned for the Abacos couldn’t cause this catastrophe to happen here. Wanta bet? It’s just that I won’t be around to collect, and none of us reading this, will be here to see the devastation of Abaco’s reef system. If development is to go forth on the scale I hear talked about, I’d say about the time today's toddlers are grandparents the reefs will be dead. And if I’m off by a generation or two....................... what’s the difference.

In the Same August 16th edition - “Letters to the Editor” below.

The skeptic will find differences with some of the letters above because there are no phosphate mines in the Abacos. But what about the other things in common, now or in the future?
You be the judge.
